Simon S. Belleau (1986) is an artist and filmmaker based in Montreal. His work across video, photography, installation, and painting draws from the conventions of theatre and cinematography, which continue to inform the formal and conceptual foundations of his practice.
He has realized projects for Letters to Nora, Chicago (2025), Fonderie Darling, Montréal (2024); Liste Art Basel, Basel (2023); Galerie Eli Kerr, Montréal (2022); AXENÉO7, Gatineau (2021); Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal, Montréal (2021); Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como, Italy (2018); Galerie René Blouin, Montreal (2018); Sculpture Center, New York City (2018). S. Belleau completed an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was awarded the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Fellowship. From 2019 to 2021, he was an Artist-in-Residence and Lecturer in the Sculpture Department at Concordia University, and took part in Fonderie Darling’s long-term residency program from 2019 to 2022. In 2023, he was selected for the CALQ’s six-month residency at the Québec Studio in Rome.
S. Belleau’s work is in the collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal and the By Art Matters Museum 天⽬⾥美术馆 in Hangzhou, China.
